We are in deep sadness with the passing of Yaşar Kemal, our great novelist and our master.
As a writer, reporter and politician, Yaşar Kemal witnessed 20th century of our region and was a part of the our peoples’ struggle for peace, freedom and equality.
In interviews and in his novels, Yaşar Kemal told of the epic struggles of those living in hardship, writing that “Humanity’s resistance is the backbone of life.” The greatest legacy left to us by Yaşar Kemal is hope.
His works will continue to be a source of inspiration for humane values and for struggles of peace and justice.
We would like to express condolences to his family, acquaintances and our peoples.
