To our comrades in the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Turkey,
We are writing you this letter to express our unconditional solidarity after the detention of Selahattin Demirtas, Figen Yüksekdag and several HDP’s MPs.
This recent crackdown, which happened in the aftermath of the July 15th failed coup, represents not only a huge regression for the Turkish pluralism and democracy, but also a serious and unlawful attempt on the legitimate leaders and the democratically elected representatives of the third political force in the country.
As a component of the Moroccan Left, we strongly urge the Turkish authorities to immediately free the detainees, stop this continuous crackdown on the HDP and build the basis of a durable political dialogue with the respect of the rule of law.
