Our Delegations Brussels visit

Our co-Chair Mr. Selahattin Demirtaş and a HDP delegation consisting of our vice co-Chair of HDP Foreign Affairs and Bingöl Deputy Mr. Hişyar Özsoy, Adana Deputy Ms. Meral Danış Beştaş and Mardin Deputy Mr. Mithat Sincar completed their official visits in Brussels.

Our delegation met with Mr.Martin Schulz, the European Parliament President and Mr. Johannes Hahn, Member of the EC in charge of European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations discussing resuming the peace process and the latest situation in Turkey.

Demirtaş made statements to the press after meeting with EP President Martin Schulz.

“I can say that the European Parliament (EP) is one of the most efficient institutions that closely monitor what is happening in Turkey. We want this to be a bit more materialized. For instance, the EP can develop official initiatives as to the peace process, resolution process in Turkey” said Demirtaş.

Demirtaş also noted that it is likely there will be some attempts against HDP and MPs in the upcoming days. “As a matter of fact, trustee appointments to our municipalities, arrests and suspensions of our mayors, DBP (Democratic Regions Party) Co-Chair Kamuran Yüksek’s being arrested for 165 days…These all demonstrate that unless there is a strong resistance in Turkey’s democracy front, a strong democratic solidarity in the international area, Turkey can’t be saved from being dragged to a disaster” he added.

On the last day of the Brussels visit, Mr. Demirtaş met with Ms. Federica Mogherini,  High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
